How to Choose Castanets for our method?
You don’t need expensive castanets to start.
Yes, really.
You can learn the New Castanets Method with regular castanets from a music store.
The most important thing is not which castanets you own.
It’s that you start playing.
Option 1:
Start with regular castanets
Best if: you’re a beginner, you want to try the technique first, or you want the most affordable option.
You really don’t need to spend a lot of money just to find out if you enjoy playing castanets.
I’ve tested the GEWA 830415 myself, and they work with the New Castanets technique
Check which store ships to your country and compare shipping costs before ordering.
Can’t find GEWA?
That’s okay. You can try another pair. 💙
Look for:
Lightweight castanets - probably the most important thing. They should feel light and comfortable in your hands.
A separate castanet for each hand.
Regular hand-held castanets rather than castanets attached to a handle or paddle.
Avoid toy castanets.
Music-store castanets can vary from pair to pair, but you absolutely do not need the perfect instrument to start.
Option 2:
New Castanets
Best if: you already know you want to play and you want the instrument we created specifically for this technique.
Our castanets are not a mass-produced instrument with our logo added to it. We designed them specifically for the New Castanets technique.
They are based on an original model my dad carved by hand after years of developing his own way of playing castanets.
Today, each pair is hand-cast for us in collaboration with a small Czech company. Then my dad personally finishes every pair and ties the cords.
We inspect them, pack them by hand in our original box and add a handwritten note before they leave us.
From the original shape to the finished pair, these are genuinely our instrument.
And because they are produced in small quantities and finished by hand, they cost more than regular castanets from a music store.
Do you need our New Castanets to play?
No.
